Our chosen genre (Charlotte)
Our chosen genre is a war themed comedy mockumentary (A television programme or film which takes the form of a serious documentary in order to satirize its subject). We chose this genre as mockumentaries are a popular genre that appeals to a large target audience, and because the genre is slowly becoming more popular with mockumentaries such as Mascots, The Office and The Blair Witch Project. This means that our mockumentary would be more popular due to it being a trending genre, and because comedy films are a long running popular genre that is most likely not going to stop being popular for a very long time, giving us a higher chance of success.
Having a set genre is important as it gives us guidance on what to do within our film. If our film didn't have a genre we wouldn't know how to handle different scenes during the movie and it would quickly become messy and disorganised. Having a set genre means that we have limits and generic conventions to work with, which can make the entire process much easier.
